As we head into the final days of the year, we've begun reflecting on the past year of television with one question in mind: Which show was your favorite in 2009?

Were you happily bewildered by Lost's time-tripping fifth season? Did comedies such as How I Met Your Mother and The Office make you laugh harder than ever? Did new series like NCIS: Los Angeles and The Vampire Diaries earn a spot in your weekly TV lineup? Did cable dramas like Sons of Anarchy and Dexter keep you riveted?

As you think back on these and many other worthy shows (Battlestar Galactica already seems so far away), we want to know: What is your favorite TV show of 2009?

Sons of Anarchy: How Long Will Tara Keep Gemma's Secret?

The brutal gang rape that Gemma (Katey Sagal) suffered in the Season 2 premiere of Sons of Anarchy caused plenty of pain — and it forged a bond between Gemma and would-be daughter-in-law Tara (Maggie Siff).

"They're really different on the surface, but in some ways they are cut of the same cloth," Siff tells TVGuide.com.

One thing they both have in common: their love for Gemma's son, Jax (Charlie Hunnam). Tara's involvement in Jax's life has led her back to the rough-and-tumble lifestyle of the SAMCRO motorcycle club, something that also brought her closer to Gemma.

"Gemma has decided to help Tara figure out how to navigate the ropes," Siff says. "What's required is that you know what the code is, and Gemma is helping her with that."

Together, the two have uncovered what Siff (Mad Men, Nip/Tuck) calls Tara's "primal" side. Whether its midday target practice on a porn star's car or just turning a blind eye to the clubs less-than-upstanding ways, Siff says it's been a fun diversion...

Ratings: Sons of Anarchy Rides High — And Over the Networks

Sons of Anarchy isn't taking its hand off the throttle.

The FX biker drama has been averaging around 4 million viewers all season, but Tuesday's episode — which pulled in 3.7 million viewers to handily win the night among cable channels — was competitive with the major networks in the adults 18-49 demographic. More significantly, Sons' 2.2 rating outperformed both The Jay Leno Show (1.8) and ABC's The Forgotten (2.0) in the demo.

NBC stands behind Leno's numbers. "The Jay Leno Show continues to top our expectations," a network spokesman told TVGuide.com. "And, as always, we are looking at this on a 52-week basis."

Calls to ABC for comment were not immediately returned.

Sons creator and executive producer Kurt Sutter wrote in his blog that networks have opened themselves up to being beaten by cable by producing the same shows over and over...
