News: The Simpsons Episode Recap: "Treehouse of Horror XX"

The twentieth "Treehouse of Horror" episode included spoofs on Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M for Murder, zombie movies like 28 Days Later and I Am Legend, and lastly a musical, similar to Phantom of the Opera.

We weren't really all that impressed with this year's "Treehouse" episode. Initially, we were so excited to watch it after Randall and I purchased The Simpsons Deluxe "Scene It" DVD game, the newly released "The Simpsons: An Uncensored, Unauthorized History" book, and the new Playboy with Marge on the cover. However, this new episode was kind of a let down...so unexciting that it's difficult to sum it all up.

To take Kitty's mind off her chemotherapy, Sarah regales her with tales of a whirlwind affair with a dashing artist (Gilles Marini). Sarah's sultry narrative does the trick, but is this Gallic romance real, or is her French connection just another grand illusion?

Later, they recall when they each met distracting members of the opposite sex who nearly wooed Homer and Marge away from each other. Bart and Lisa also reflect on happier times from their early childhood. Despite the obstacles and the passing of time, Homer and Marge are able to see the forest for the trees. The episode is based on the classic Audrey Hepburn/Albert Finney film "Two for the Road".

Unfortunately, the last remaining bee colony in Springfield is located on the proposed stadium site, and Lisa is single-handedly spearheading a movement to protect them. As Lisa fights for a safe haven for the bees, Homer attempts to help the quickly diminishing bee population by mating the Springfield bees with Africanized bees, creating a mad swarm that disrupts Burns' opening night.

Having already offended Bashir and his family at dinner, Homer goes to their home to apologize, but he instead snoops around their house, a la Jack Bauer, and uncovers what he believes to be a terrorist plot to blow up the Springfield Mall. Homer tries to warn the residents of Springfield an impending disaster that he winds up causing.
