Director Joel Zwick brings Bill Cosby's Saturday-morning cartoon series to the big screen. The movie takes a similar approach as the 'Brady Bunch' film adaptations, as Fat Albert (played by Nickelodeon and 'SNL' star Kenan Thompson) and the gang incongruously appears in the present day -- as real-life (not animated) characters. Cosby, creator of the original series, 'Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids' (1972-1984), is credited as a cowriter. -

A generation grew up watching Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, the Saturday morning cartoon series that enjoyed one of the longest runs in cartoon history. Now, Bill Cosby s beloved characters make their way to movie theaters nationwide in an all-new, live-action motion picture. Fat Albert and friends are drawn through a TV into the real world where they get into fish-out-of-water trouble while simultaneously trying to solve the problems of two teenage girls. There is, of course, a ticking clock: if our heroes don't get back into their cartoon universe pretty soon they will turn to celluloid powder. Thanks to their initiative and a little help from the real life Bill Cosby, Fat Albert ("Hey, Hey, Hey") and his pals find a way.

Bill Cosby's gang of childhood pals evolve from standup comedy to an animated cartoon series to real life in this family-friendly comedy. Doris (Kyla Pratt) is a teenager who doesn't fit in with most of her classmates at school, has been depressed since the death of her grandfather, and is disturbed by her foster sister's willingness to remake herself in order to be popular. One of Doris' few solaces comes from watching reruns of the animated television series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, and one day while watching the show she starts to cry, with a tear dropping into her remote. The tear draws big-hearted (and just plain big) Fat Albert (Kenan Thompson) from the animated universe into Doris' real world in hopes of cheering her up and helping her deal with her problems.
