Directed by the prolific Rob Zombie, The Devil's Rejects is a sequel of sorts to 2003's House of 1000 Corpses, and picks up several weeks after House left off. This time, the clash revolves around the tribe of violent lunatics and decidedly valueless family members of the original film, who have come to be known as the "Devil's Rejects." After learning of the extended family's horrific attacks, a SWAT team is sent to take them into custody; all but their crazed Mama escape. In addition to creating a full-fledged media circus, this sends the sociopath housemates on the run, and they initiate a deadly road trip. Meanwhile, Mama has to deal with a violent, vengeful sheriff (William Forsythe). His refusal to play by the normal rules of the mafia ultimately became the mobster's achilles heel; the FBI eventually persuaded assassin Sammy The Bull Gravano to testify against his ungrateful, paranoid boss, who was finally imprisoned in 1982. Gotti is based in part on a book written by Jerry Capeci and Gene Mustain titled Mob Star: The Story of John Gotti. Gotti, directed by Robert Harmon stars Armand Assante as the complicated mafia lord, and also features actors Anthony Quinn and William Forsythe. Hearst then allegedly spent 57 days locked in a closet as she was indoctrinated into the group's revolutionary beliefs by their charismatic leader, Cinque (Ving Rhames). Eventually, Hearst joined (or at least pretended to join) the SLA, adopted the name Tania and participated in a number of high-profile bank robberies. Trouble is, he's so convincing that the cops assign him a rookie partner, Carlson (Luke Wilson), to put through training. To his surprise, Miles turns out to be a good cop, and the more he tries to find the missing diamonds, the higher he's promoted through the department, until he finds himself in line for a top spot in the detective's division. This direct descendant of Reservoir Dogs revolves around not one bungled heist, but several. A colorful band of criminals from differing walks of life are recruited to rip-off the local crime boss (Tony Curtis) in a series of robberies. They rendezvous at the nightclub owned by their ringleader, Jack (Eric Roberts), only to find, not surprisingly, that a double-cross awaits, and a bloody conclusion is soon to follow. The twisting plot is rather unique and somewhat satisfying, especially as the hidden meaning of the film's title is revealed. However, The Immortals has more success with its casting, which brings together many veteran performers (including Tia Carrere, William Forsythe, Joe Pantoliano, Chris Rock, and Clarence Williams III); all of them seem to migrate between A- and B-grade movie status, as does the film itself. ~ Jonathan E. When his partner, a friend since childhood, is murdered -- in broad daylight, and in clear view of his wife and children -- Gino is assigned to investigate, and he soon learns that the shooter was Richie Madano (William Forsythe), his life-long nemesis and now a low-level wise guy with an addiction to crack. Gino swings into action to bring Richie to justice, though he discovers that he's not the first in line -- the Don who oversees Richie's crew is appalled by this crime, and Gino has to bring Richie in before the Mafia can put a bullet in his head.
