The Right Stuff is based on abook by Tom Wolfe. They recount the story of the first seven astronauts selected for the NASA space program, based on interviews and research by the author. The story contrasts the "Mercury Seven" and their families with Chuck Yeager, who was considered by many test pilots to be the best of them all, but who was never selected as an astronaut. The Mercury Seven were Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Alan Shepard, and Deke Slayton.

I haven;t heard all of Scarlett Johansson;s new Tom Waits covers project yet, but I feel pretty confident in saying that Zooey Deschanel, along with the capable help of M. Ward, has put out the best album by an actor or actress maybe ever (sorry Swayze). The duo is called She & Him, and their appropriately-titled first album Volume One is an impressive collection vintage-sounding lounge-y, poppy, country crooners. Highly recommended. Here;s their performance - backed by Yo La Tengo - on Conan last night.
