Jonas Trapp (Chuck Connors) falls in love with the beautiful Jessie (Kathryn Hays), a wealthy girl out of his humble class. Against the wishes of her snobbish aunt (Ruth Warrick), she marries him, later faking a pregnancy to win her aunt's consent. But Jonas tires of living off of his wife's family, and eventually deserts her to become a buffalo hunter. 11 years later, with his self-made fortune, he sets out to return home, only to be set upon by three sadistic marauders (Michael Rennie, Bill Bixby and Claude Akins), who steal his money and leave him for dead. Rescued by a farmer (Paul Fix) who nurses him back to health, Jonas becomes consumed by the desire for revenge. As fate would have it, all three men live close to Jonas' former home. Matters quickly get worse when Jonas reunites with his wife, only to discover that she is now engaged to Renne.

Katie O'Neill and her husband immigrate to South Africa to escape Ireland's Potato Famine. During a native insurgency, Katie's husband is killed and Katie is forced to fend for herself. She soon meets and falls in love with Paul Van Riebeck, a South African cavalry commander who is trying to bring peace to his country during the Boer War. After the commander has an illicit affair with Katie, Kurt Hout, a Dutch farmer, claims her as his property and then becomes a renegade who attempts to pilfer the South African diamond mines. Van Riebeck pursues the farmer and a final battle ensues.

Determined to push Larue into popularity, Gidget gets her involved with Paul and Doug who are forming a singing group. Later, Peter Stone joins the group. Although Gidget insists the boys keep Larue, they definitely want Gidget, even of she only bangs a tambourine. Gidget writes to Rick Farmer, an M.C., calling his attention to the group. Impressed by their fresh appearance, Farmer auditions them. To dramatize their appearance, they adopt Beatnik attire and change their name to "The Gories" Paul asks Gidget to tell Larue they'll have to drop her to insure the success of the groups Larue tells Gidget she's been looking for a way out. Later, Gidget, involved an her own theatrical plans, tells Russ she only got involved to help Larue.

Set in a small fictional town in the U.S. during the 1930s, Lars von Trier's Dogville was filmed in a studio with a minimal set and features narration by John Hurt. On the run from a group of gangsters, Grace (Nicole Kidman) arrives in the small mining town of Dogville. Town philosopher Tom Edison (Paul Bettany) takes her in and strikes a deal with her: She'll work for the townsfolk in exchange for a safe place to hide; after two weeks the people will vote for her to either stay or go. Grace agrees to the terms and ends up meeting the locals, including the town doctor (Philip Baker Hall), shopkeeper (Lauren Bacall), and apple farmer (Stellan Skarsg rd).
