Cheers to Luke Perry for his image-changing guest shot as a wacko cult leader on Criminal Minds. Ever since Dylan McKay's heyday on Beverly Hills, 90210, Perry has been trying to shed his junior-James Dean mantle by playing real bad boys — witness his term as a convict on Oz or his recent spot as a serial rapist on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. His deeply creepy turn as Benjamin Cyrus, a Colorado polygamist who takes Agents Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Prentiss (Paget Brewster) hostage during a stand-off, may finally do the trick.

With juicy roles like this one, it’s no wonder Perry has so far resisted the temptation to strap on the old sideburns and return to the new-and-unimproved 90210, despite Dylan's status as Kelly’s alleged babydaddy. Stay strong, Luke!

Despite having his name prominently dropped in the latest episode of 90210 — "You’re still in love with Dylan," Brenda said, referring to the father of Kelly's son — Luke Perry is impressively sticking to his guns and fending off any offer to guest-star on the CW reboot. During a conference call to promote his appearance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's Sept. 23 season premiere, Perry was asked if he would be appearing on 90210, especially given the aforementioned mention of Dylan. "They own the name and likeness," he (presumably) shrugged. Pressed to clarify his stance, he stated simply, "That would be a no."That rebuff is in keeping with what Perry told TVGuide.com (in this video, at the 3:30 mark) more than two months ago. "When you're in the professional acting business, you have to look at all offers, but.... creatively, [playing Dylan] is something I've done before and I don’t know that I'd benefit from going back and doing it again," he maintain...

Because of her rare blood type, she can't get new lungs, so Perry begins a frantic search to find a donor. Eventually, he becomes so desperate that he starts having an affair with a real-estate agent (Gia Carides) whom he plans to murder because she's a match with Swift and has signed her donor card. Director P.J. Posner shows a surprising amount of sensitivity and character development in what was obviously designed to be no more than a cheap erotic thriller. Perry and Swift are believable and sympathetic, and the portrait of Swift's degenerating condition and Perry's desperation is moving and poignant. Only a cliched scene tacked on at the end gives the film's intentions away despite its frequent sexual situations and nudity. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide.

The backdrop for this epic Western, which aired in August 2002 on the Hallmark Channel, will be familiar to fans of the genre and students of Western history. The Johnson County War took place in northern Wyoming in April 1892, growing out of the familiar story of big-money ranchers who suspected homesteader neighbors of rustling. Screenwriters Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana adapted Frederick Manfred's 1957 novel, {-Riders of Judgment}, which used some of the events and people but changed the names, including the county (which becomes Bighorn) and the main town (from Buffalo to Antelope). Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate (1981) also employed elements of the Johnson County War in its story.
