The Sliders land in the ocean, and swim to the nearby beach, where they realize California has become a chain of islands. They enter the dense undergrowth, feeling that something is watching them. They're right: something chases them. They evade the vaguely-human creature, then it leaps on Quinn (Jerry O'Connell). Maggie (Kari Wuhrer) grabs a rock and knocks it out. Hearing more growls, they rush off. Elsewhere in the jungle, Rickman (Neil Dickson) sneaks up on a half-human creature and plunges a needle into its neck. He then injects himself, taking on the hybrid's features. At the hybrids' lair, Rickman asks the leader, Ceres (DeRon Michael McBee), if they are ready to attack the compound, but Ceres tells him that Dr. Vargas (Michael York) has guns. Just then, a hybrid is dragged in, mumbling about other humans. Realizing it's the Sliders, Rickman tells Ceres to shift his attack to the new humans. The Sliders arrive in Fresno, California, Maggie's (Kari Wuhrer) birthplace. She is shocked to see that streets and public parks have been named after her. A sculpture in the courthouse square is dedicated to Lieutenant Colonel Margaret Beckett, a heroic astronaut. They visit the Maggie Beckett Museum, where they are greeted by Mr. Xybo (Rob LaBelle), who tells them the astronaut's story. Maggie was the leader of the crew of the Intrepid, a mission that managed to land on Mars, but didn't make it back.

A man wearing a gas mask picks flowering plants from a foggy forest, when he is set upon by a group of the natives. They cut the hose, and watch him die, gasping. Shortly, the Sliders land in the forest and all but Maggie (Kari Wuhrer) start coughing and gasping. She leads them out of the fog, which ends at the forest line. Deep within the fog, the natives, accompanied by Colonel Rickman (Neil Dickson), watch their struggle. Later, when Maggie returns from exploring the fog, Quinn (Jerry O'Connell) berates her for leaving the group and demands that she stay with the team. They enter a nearby rustic town, inhabited by a simple, unmodern people and they encounter Adra (Oona Hart), a blind seer, as she reads tarot cards. When she touches Quinn's face, she gets a vision -- he is a sacrificial victim for the natives -- and warns them to leave town. Rembrandt (Cleavant Derricks) thinks it's nonsense, but Wade (Sabrina Lloyd) wants to find out more.

As the Sliders escape from a jungle world where flying parasites are swarming over them, Maggie (Kari Wuhrer) is attacked by one. Quinn (Jerry O Connell) rips it away, and they slide to the next world, where Maggie collapses with green foam bubbling from her mouth. Paramedics soon arrive on the scene, blasting Maggie's body with frozen nitrogen. Now in suspended animation, they take her away to a hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital, the group finds that Dr. Sylvius (Dawnn Lewis) has been put in charge of the frozen Maggie. She shows them Maggie's x-ray, revealing something in her stomach. With the group distracted by the x-ray, Maggie rises from the cot and escapes through the ventilation ducts undetected.

Williams' eyes flash in anger, but he ignores the question. The Sliders arrive and hear a crowd cheering, so they go to see what's happening. Maggie (Kari Wuhrer) is pushed into Williams' arms. As he holds her tight, cameras flash, and soon her face is splashed on the television news, being identified as the woman with whom Williams has been having a secret affair.

Instead, an electronic voice asks for her data number. When she presses a button, a laser beam scans her. Suddenly a driverless van pulls up and she is propelled into it by the force of the laser. It speeds away as the others watch in disbelief. She finds herself trapped in a pristine white cell, a bar code bracelet strapped to her wrist.

Before she can finish, however, someone sticks a needle in her neck and then injects himself with the fluid. The Sliders land in a city besieged by looters, as defense sirens wail. They come across a vagrant, who blames the Russians. Apparently, the Cold War has not ended in this dimension. Suddenly, a car races around the corner, flipping and exploding. The Sliders try to rescue the driver, who mumbles something about a trajectory being wrong. As he dies, the Sliders notice blood seeping from a gunshot wound. Arturo (John Rhys-Davies) recognizes the man as Dr. Jariabek, a noted cosmologist. Another car pulls up, and Captain Maggie Beckett (Kari Wuhrer) and two soldiers jump out with guns drawn, demanding to know if Jariabek said anything.

His beautiful young widow, Ann (Kari Wuhrer), is distraught to the point of psychosis and gets it into her now-twisted mind that the best revenge is to kill anyone who had anything to do with Chris losing his job -- that means the boss (Jay Richardson) and Chris' successor, the innocent, diabetic family woman Nicole (Barbara Crampton). Nicole struggles to keep her dysfunctional clan together, but the new housekeeper (guess who?) proves a seductive force on her husband, her college-aged son, and her slutty teenaged daughter. Ernie teaches creative writing at a small college where prominent professor Alex Laughton (Stephen Lang) has been blown apart with a shotgun while groping the frequently nude Jeri Kari Wuhrer in a car on Lover's Lane. Laughton's widow, Elizabeth (Valeria Golino) drags the reluctant Ernie out of retirement to clear her name, as she is the prime suspect. When he's not mainlining drugs or trading japes with investigating detective Robert Davi, Ernie is haunted by visions of Jeri, taunting him about his incompetence. It's not really Jeri, of course, and may even be the spirit of his former alcoholism, but the plot is so muddled that it's hard to tell.
