Christopher Morahan directed this nail-biting suspense melodrama that takes a cynical look at the medical profession. Matthew Harris (Paul McGann) is an unhappy intern at a London hospital who envies the staff doctors and their calling. When a physician who resembles Matthew is killed in an auto accident, Matthew decides to assume his identity so that he can attend an interview the dead man had scheduled for a post at a Bristol hospital. Matthew gets the job and is now Dr. Simon Hennessey, working in the hospital emergency room. He is assisted by friendly nurse Christine Taylor (Amanda Donohue), who ends up falling in love with him. But Matthew makes a fatal mistake and a patient dies. At the ensuing inquest, Christine takes the blame for the accident. Matthew, emboldened by the results of the inquest, decides to apply for a better job at a hospital in Salisbury. Kevin Gower (Michael Rapaport) is an investment advisor who is engaged to marry the woman he loves, Deeann (Christine Taylor). One day, Kevin is approached by a gruff stranger named Max (Christopher Walken), who escorts Kevin into a car. Soon Kevin is introduced to Sal (Robert Forster), a leading organized crime figure who informs Kevin that's he is his biological father. This is puzzling news for Kevin, especially after Sal's limousine is blown up only a few moments later. Madge (Nancy Allen), Kevin's mom, confirms that Sal was indeed Kevin's father, though she thought it best that he not know about it. A few days later, Max and Wendy (Jamie Anderson), Sal's girlfriend, approach Kevin and ask him to attend Sal's funeral. Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story revolves around amiable underachiever Peter LaFleur (Vince Vaughn), whose rundown gym, Average Joe's, is populated by a less-than-average clientele including a self-styled pirate, an ultra-obscure sports aficionado, and a pining high school nerd. It soon becomes apparent that Joe's is in financial trouble and will soon be foreclosed by attractive attorney Kate Veach (Christine Taylor) - unless Peter can cough up $50,000. Despite Average Joe's posing little threat to Globo Gym, a fitness Goliath across the street that is owned by egomaniacal White Goodman (Ben Stiller) - Goodman senses an easy acquisition and decides to take over the facility. Peter's ragtag group of regulars, however, are less than thrilled with the prospects, and mobilize a showdown, winner-takes-all Dodgeball tournament against Globo Gym.
