Dark Blue takes place in the underbelly of Los Angeles, where criminals roam free under the veil of night or hide in the shadows of day. Wandering in and out of this seedy world is routine for Lieutenant Carter Shaw (Golden Globe winner Dylan McDermott) and his special undercover task force. This team understands that to bring down a criminal, one must first get on their level.Carter's team includes Ty Curtis (Omari Hardwick), a recently married cop who struggles to juggle real life and the relationships he has developed while undercover; Dean Bendis (Logan Marshall-Green), a fearless gunslinger whose activities make his team wonder which side he's actually on; and Jaimie Allen (Nicki Aycox), a green patrol cop recruited for her excellent lying ability, especially concerning her own past.Carter and his team know that being undercover may require cutting ties with those who mean the most. In the series premiere, after an undercover FBI agent's body is dumped on the side of the road, all eyes turn toward Dean Bendis (series star LOGAN MARSHALL-GREEN), an undercover officer currently embedded with the gang believed to be responsible for the FBI agent's murder. Dean's boss, Carter, is determined to bring the gang leader down while also ensuring that Dean has not turned and switched loyalties. Carter sends in Ty Curtis (series star OMARI HARDWICK), who must leave his life as a newlywed to return to the seedy criminal world and get Dean out. Meanwhile, Carter recruits and trains the latest member of his team, Jaimie Allen (series star NICKI AYCOX), a patrol cop who has successfully fabricated her entire past.

When Sandy becomes the honorary chairman of the Newport Beach charity yard sale, he solicits help from Trey (recurring guest star LOGAN MARSHALL-GREEN), who has his first confrontation with the Newpsies. While Sandy auctions off Newport's finest, Kirsten and Carter (recurring guest star BILLY CAMPBELL) share a table. When one of the auction's most expensive pieces goes missing, Ryan and Seth could also use some help. Meanwhile, Trey looks for a more permanent place to live as the Cohens welcome yet another houseguest.

Meanwhile, on the West Coast, Carter (recurring guest star BILLY CAMPBELL) packs his bags and leaves Kirsten alone at the offices of Newport Living, and Trey (recurring guest star LOGAN MARSHALL-GREEN) misinterprets Marissa's friendship. And after leaving town in disgrace, Julie returns and surprisingly ends up reminiscing with an old acquaintance.
